Locksmith in LincolnCalm hands
on your door
A lock problem is rarely only a lock problem. It is a door that swells shut in a damp week, a key that snapped on a cold morning, a tenant who left without handing anything back. In Lincoln we listen first, explain the options, and do tidy work you can see before we drive off.

Have us open your safe in Lincoln
In Lincoln we think about how a door is actually used before choosing hardware. A back door staff prop open needs a different answer than a front door a family uses twice a day. A side entry for a teenager who forgets keys may want a keypad. We ask those questions first, then match the lock to the habit.

How a visit goes
Moving house is a long list, and the locks are easy to forget until the first night. We suggest making them one of the first calls.

Call and describe the door
Describe the property, the hardware and what has changed, and the visit starts from what you have seen.

Step 2 of 5
On our way
We look at the cylinder, the bolt, the strike, the hinges and any glass nearby, and say plainly which parts are sound and which are thin.

2021 census: what it means at the door
Every square is one home in a hundred.
- 41 in 100 homes · mixed ages
- 70 in 100 homes · mostly houses
- About 41% of homes in Lincoln were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census. In an area where homes span several eras, one street may have original mortise locks and the next builder-grade cylinders. A locksmith working here carries parts for both, so whichever door he meets, the job finishes in one visit.
- Single-detached houses make up about 70% of homes in Lincoln (2021 Census).A detached house gives a locksmith room to work: full access to both sides of every door, hinges and frames included. Repairs and upgrades can be thorough, from the front deadbolt to the gate latch, with nothing off limits.
Short answers to common questions
Someone reached through the sidelight to turn the thumb-turn. Should I fit a deadbolt keyed on both sides?
It is tempting, but a thumb-turn lets everyone in the household leave by that door without hunting for a key, special device or special knowledge, so a keyed inside cylinder is the wrong fix. Better answers are a tested security-film system or laminated glass in the sidelight to slow an arm from passing, moving the deadbolt beyond arm's reach of the glass where the door allows, and a glass-break sensor if you have an alarm.
Can a smart lock go on a patio door, a side gate or a multipoint door?
Some can, and the locksmith will say which. Sliding patio doors use a hook or a pin rather than a deadbolt, so they take purpose-made electronic latches rather than a standard smart deadbolt. Multipoint doors, common on newer fibreglass and steel entries, lock at several points with one lever; a growing number of smart handles are built for them, and compatibility with your specific gearbox is checked first. Gates take weather-rated keypad locks designed for outdoor posts.
What actually happens during a gate or building entry lock visit?
The locksmith first watches the gate or door move and checks the hardware fitted to it, then works out whether the issue sits in the lock, the closer, the hinges or the alignment of the frame itself. Whatever combination is found, the relevant piece is adjusted, rekeyed or replaced, and the whole assembly is cycled repeatedly afterward to confirm it closes, latches and locks the same way every time. Any keys involved are cut and tested before the visit is considered complete.
Should I upgrade the front door only, or every door?
Start with the doors that matter and the ones that are weakest, which are often not the same. Front doors usually carry the sturdiest hardware already; the side door by the driveway, the door from the garage and the basement walkout often carry the lightest locks and get the least attention. The assessment walks the whole perimeter with you so the upgrade goes where entry is most likely, and the remaining doors can join the same key later.
